Living in Practice | Yoga Philosophy + Movement Labs

  • om shanti yoga 1620 U.S. 1 Suite 10 Tequesta, FL, 33469 United States (map)

Join our founding teachers for a three part workshop series on immersing yourself in yoga—both on and off of the mat.

Lisa Luther will guide you through a deeper understanding of the philosophical components of the practice that are the core of living a yogic lifestyle.

Jen Sloan will break down a variety of asanas + movement practices in a way that is digestible + accessible for practitioners of all levels.

Mornings will consist of lecture + discussion, followed by a 30 minute break, and afternoons will be both discussion + movement. You will leave each session knowing the essential concepts that will guide you through your yoga practice—intellectually + physically—and how to incorporate them into your daily life.

*While we recommend students take the Series in its entirety, each Saturday will be presented in a way that welcomes new students, and offers a brief discussion on previous workshop content.

Session 1 (11am-2pm)

Living in Practice | The Yamas and The Niyamas- Yoga’s Ethical Framework

In our first session, our time together will focus on the 10 practices that create a firm foundation for us as students to continue on a yogic path. Each practice offers students an opportunity to examine their relationship to themselves and the world around them. The format will encourage open dialogue so we can learn from each other's perspectives and experiences.

Session 2 (2:30pm-5:30pm)

Asana Lab | History + Foundations of Sun Salutations

If you have ever been in a flow-based yoga class, you’ve likely done a variation of Sun Salutations. Some lineages warm up with several of them and others have them sprinkled throughout a class. While this foundational yoga sequence is presented in a variety of ways, we’ll spend the afternoon breaking down the traditional series, including the history behind it, basic anatomy, safe alignment and pranayama (breathwork). Whether you’re new to yoga or looking to explore variations in your practice, this Asana Lab will guide you through a step-by-step exploration for each pose within the Sun Salutation sequence, unraveling its physical, mental and energetic benefits.

We’ll go beyond just the poses + breathwork, and take a broader view that incorporates all 8 limbs that serve to guide us to more freedom and clarity in our lives.

We’ll focus on standing poses in which the legs are internally rotated (Warrior 1, Warrior 3, High Lunges, etc.).
